This Unisex Long Sleeve Tee design is inspired by Ethiopian coin, a roaring Ethiopian lion also known as an Abyssinian Lion. The coin was designed by designer and metalworker Stuart Devlin; production date 1977 (EE 1969 (Ethiopian Era)) The Ethiopian currency is the birr, with 1 birr divided into 100 santim.
The Derg, the socialist military took power in the Ethiopian Revolution following the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1974, marking the end of the Solomonic dynasty which had ruled Ethiopia since the 13th century. The Ethiopian emperors were direct descendants of Menelik I, the son of King Solomon from the tribe of Juda and of the Queen of Sheba. But for reasons unknown the Derg who killed Haile Selassie commissioned this coin with the lion on the obverse which is an old symbol of Ethiopia. It is the Lion of Juda!
